The painting of Come Home was based off of two different settings and scenarios. Which was a direct reflection of what my life has been centered around during the Summer 2018.
World Series and Baseball:
For a watercolor painting done in the Summer of 2018, I didn’t realize the Dodgers would make it to the world series and be apart of the longest game in World Series history. It was a fun year for baseball and I’m happy to have gone to LA this year as it had a huge impact on me. I felt a true connection to the city and its people. I vibed with the culture, diversity, and music of beautiful Los Angeles. Which is why I wanted to do a painting centered around LA.
Deeper Meaning:
This watercolor was also influenced by a friend who was finding their way back home through a mess of tragic events. She eventually found her way and is happy. I wanted to paint a positive picture depicting her journey. She is seen here enjoying her music on an empty bus, as her path would reflect a lonely one, but through her own strength she would triumph through. Hope she has many years of joy through out her life.
Who and What:
I couldn’t believe how long this project would take, and what new things I would have to learn to complete it. I’ve been teaching myself Adobe Premiere and editing all of the videos in the series. I also had an opportunity to work with my cousin (Jens Eskelsen) who wrote and performed a series of acoustic guitar songs. Which you hear through the 3 sessions of the painting. At the end of the day this is a small foot forward in the direction I’m taking in my life. I feel honored to be apart of community that is bigger and much grandeur then myself as I share my work with all of you.
